John Stanley Forster was born in Prescot, Lancashire, in 1888, the son of John Forster, an engineer, and his wife Esther. From about 1904 he worked for Parr's Bank.

 

On the outbreak of war in August 1914 Forster left his job at the bank's Widnes branch to go on military service. By 1918 he was a Captain in the Royal Field Artillery. He died on 22 August 1918 of wounds received in action in France. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Irene Brenda, whom he had married in December 1917.
