Charles Leonard Gover was born on 20 July 1888, the son of William George Gover and his wife Emily. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Southampton Union Bank branch. In 1915 he married Margaret Ethel Thompson.

 

During the First World War Gover joined the army, serving as a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery. He died in Belgium on 28 July 1917, a week after his 29th birthday.

 

Charles Gover is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
