Charles Stuart Greenwood was born on 2 April 1894, the son of Robert Greenwood and his wife Florence. In August 1911, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War Greenwood left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Newington branch to join the army. By 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers. He died on 21 July 1916 of wounds received in action. He was 22 years old.
