Francis Ernest Gallichan was born in St Helier, Jersey, on 19 January 1894, the son of Francis Grandin Gallichan and his wife Alice Jane Le Boutillier. From about 1909 he worked for Parr's Bank.

 

During the First World War Gallichan left his job at the bank's Kingston-upon-Thames branch to go on military service, and by 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He was posted to France in April 1916, and was killed in action on the Somme on 27 July 1916. He was 22 years old.
