Frank Sowden Gray was born in Lincoln in 1897, the son of William Gray, a coachman and groom, and his wife Emma. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Lincoln Smiths Bank branch.

 

During the First World War Gray joined the army, serving as a Private in the 26th (Bankers') Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. He died in France on 18 September 1916.

 

Frank Gray is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
