Benjamin Hardy was born on 3 October 1886. In January 1906 he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank and Hardy became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In May 1915 Hardy left his job as a clerk at the bank's Woolwich branch to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Machine Gun Corps. He died on 25 April 1918 of wounds received in action. He was 31 years old and left a widow, Elizabeth Alice, whom he had married in 1912.
