Charles Frederick Heatly was born on 17 September 1894, the second son of Henry Louis Heatly and his wife Kate Sophia. He was educated at University College School, London. In July 1913, when he was 18 years old, Heatly went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In February 1916 Heatly left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Foreign branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He died in St Omer, France, on 17 April 1918 of wounds received in action. He was 23 years old.
