Christian Frederick Charles Harnack was born on 15 April 1893, the son of John Henry Frederick Harnack and his wife Marie. In May 1913 Harnack went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

Outside work Harnack was a territorial soldier, a member of the Berkshire Yeomanry. At the outbreak of war in 1914 he was mobilised, leaving his job as a clerk at the bank's London Lombard Street branch to go on active service. He later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. Private Harnack died in France on 30 August 1918. He was 25 years old.

 

Christian Harnack is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
