James Thomson Hall was born in Manchester on 6 April 1893, the son of Henry Herron Hall and his wife Beatrice Sinclair Hall. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Leeds Union Bank branch.

 

Early in the First World War Hall left the bank to go on military service. By 1917 he was a Second Lieutenant in the King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry). He died in France on 9 June 1917. He was 24 years old.

 

James Hall is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
