James Hardess

James Henry Hardess was born on 23 June 1896, the son of Henry and Eleanor Annie Hardess. He was educated at Cardiff High School for Boys.

 

Hardess had an uncle who worked for National Provincial Bank of England, and it was possibly through this family connection that he secured an apprenticeship with the bank. He started work at Bridgend branch in September 1912, when he was 16 years old.

 

During the First World War Hardess joined the army, serving as a Corporal in the Royal Fusiliers. He died in France on 13 November 1916. He was 20 years old.
