John Harrison

John William Harrison was born on 19 November 1892. In April 1910, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Redcar branch. After completing his three-year apprenticeship he stayed on as a clerk there. In September 1915 he transferred to Knaresborough branch.

 

In May 1916 Harrison joined the army, initially as a Private in the West Yorkshire Regiment. He later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. Private John William Harrison was killed in action in France on 20 October 1918. He was 25 years old.
