Leslie Ernest Hunt was born on 5 June 1887, the son of George Henry Hunt and his wife Emily Mary. In November 1906, when he was 19 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Hunt became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In July 1916 Hunt left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to join the army, serving initially in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and later in the Royal Fusiliers. Private Hunt died on 24 October 1917 at a casualty clearing station in France, of wounds received in action. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Eileen Laura Alexandra, whom he had married in April 1914.
