Raymond Charles Robert Higginson was born on 5 February 1895, the son of William Henry Higginson and his wife Louisa Jane. In November 1912, when he was 17 years old, Higginson went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In September 1915 Higginson left his job as a clerk at the bank's Newbury branch to join the army. Serjeant Higginson of the 26th (Bankers') Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers died in France on 20 September 1917. He was 22 years old.

 

Raymond Higginson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Newbury branch.
