Robert Harvey

Robert Leslie Harvey was born on 3 March 1880, the son of Thomas Harvey and his wife Margaret. In January 1899, when he was 19 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Harvey became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In May 1917 Harvey left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Harrow Road branch to join the army, serving as a Private in the London Regiment. He was taken prisoner, and died in a German hospital on 24 September 1918 of wounds received in action. He was 38 years old and left a widow, Eleanor, whom he had married in 1910.

 

Robert Harvey is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Kilburn branch.
