Wallace Leigh Hillier was born on 19 May 1890. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Oxford Union Bank branch. In October 1914 Hillier married Hilda Avery Penwarden. They had a son together, born in September 1917.
During the First World War Hillier joined the army, serving as a Private in the Honourable Artillery Company. He was killed in action on 9 October 1917, less than a month after the birth of his son. He was 27 years old.
Wallace Hillier is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
