William Edward Harris was born in Heavitree in 1894, the son of William John Harris and his wife Eva. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Aylesbury branch.
Early in the First World War Harris left the bank to go on military service. By 1915 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Durham Light Infantry. He died in Belgium of gas poisoning on 19 December 1915. He was 22 years old.
William Harris is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
