Walter Victor Cyril Hiscox was born on 31 March 1893, the son of an assistant chemist in an Army & Navy store. In June 1910, when Hiscox was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice in its London office. He completed his apprenticeship three years later, and was promoted to a clerkship.

 

In late 1915 Hiscox joined the army, serving as a Private in the London Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 13 September 1916. He was 23 years old.

 

William Hiscox is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
