Arthur Wynn Jones

Arthur Wynn Jones was born on 23 March 1880, the son of a solicitor and his wife. In April 1897, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as apprentice at its Denbigh branch. He transferred to Llandudno branch as a clerk in December 1901; to Hartlepool in March 1903; and to Bristol Stokes Croft in January 1904. In January 1912 he was appointed to Cowbridge branch as pro accountant, and two years later he was formally promoted to accountant grade. His manager there called him 'a good tempered hard worker.'

 

During the First World War Jones left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Welsh Regiment. He was killed in action in the Dardanelles on 10 August 1915. He was 35 years old.
