Ernest Gerald Jones was born in Sleaford in 1897, the son of Thomas Jones, a clerk, and his wife Emma. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Sleaford branch.

During the First World War Jones joined the army, becoming a Private in the Lincolnshire Regiment. He died on the Western Front on 17 February 1918. He was 20 years old.

Ernest Jones is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
