Frank Goldsmith Jay was born on 11 September 1887, the son of Frederick Jay and his wife Livesay Mary Jay. In January 1905, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Jay became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In January 1916 Jay left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Clerkenwell branch to join the army, and by 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He died in Belgium on 29 September 1918. He was 31 years old and left a widow, Edith, whom he had married in 1912.

 

Frank Jay is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Aldersgate Street branch.
