Ivor Jenkin Jones was born on 14 July 1896, the son of John Jones, a farmer at Cilcennin, Cardiganshire, and his wife Margaret. He was educated at Aberayron County School. In March 1914, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as apprentice at its Towyn branch. He later transferred to Aberdovey branch.

 

In January 1916 Jones joined the army, becoming a Private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was wounded in July 1917 and spent some weeks recuperating in hospital in England before returning to the Front. He was killed in action in France on 4 September 1918. He was 22 years old.
