Roger Thomas Jones

Roger Thomas Jones was born on 22 February 1896, the son of a Llyswen farmer. He was educated at Glasbury Grammar School. In March 1914, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as apprentice at its Hay branch. His manager there described him as a country boy, 'as willing as possible and anxious to learn.'

 

Early in the First World War Jones left the bank to go on military service as a Private in the South Wales Borderers. He died of heat apoplexy at Aden on 10 July 1915. He was 19 years old.
