William Henry Jones was born on 9 August 1888, the son of William Henry Jones and his wife Sarah Ann. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Princes Street office. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

During the First World War Jones joined the army, and by 1918 was serving as a Second Lieutenant in the Yorkshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 27 May 1918. He was 29 years old and left a widow, Mabel, whom he had married in 1916.

 

William Henry Jones is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives.
