Alexander Lindsay King was born on 13 December 1891, the son of Robert and Annie Lindsay King. He was educated at West Coats School, Cambuslang. In April 1907, when he was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Glasgow office. He became a clerk there in May 1910.

 

In December 1914 King left the bank to join the Highland Light Infantry. He went to France in 1916, and in August that year he was commissioned. Second Lieutenant Alexander Lindsay King of the Highland Light Infantry died on 9 April 1918 of wounds received in action at Lys, France. He was 26 years old.
