Gerald Zephaniah King was born on 9 January 1874, the son of Zephaniah King and his wife Clarissa. In January 1892, three days before his 18th birthday, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank and King became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In September 1914 King left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Hanover Square branch to join the army. By 1916 he was a Serjeant in the London Regiment, on active service in France. He was killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was 42 years old.

 

Gerald King is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Regent Street branch.
