Harold Kent was born in Lincoln in 1893, the son of the Reverend John E Kent, a Church of England clergyman, and his wife Emily. From about 1910 he worked for Parr's Bank.

 

In 1914 Kent left his job at the bank's Bolton branch to join the army. He served in Egypt and on the Western Front, and by 1917 was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery. He died on 14 November 1917 of wounds received in action in France. He was 23 years old.
