Ralph Kettell was born on 11 November 1895, the son of Ralph Kettell. In July 1913 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co.

 

In May 1916 Kettell left his job at the bank's Crewe branch to go on military service, becoming a Private in the South Lancashire Regiment. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 20 September 1917. He was 21 years old.
