Victor Reginald King was born on 2 March 1892, the son of Daniel King, a Great Yarmouth fish merchant, and his wife Annie. In March 1909, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for National Provincial Bank of England as an apprentice at its Long Sutton branch. He completed his apprenticeship three years later, and was promoted to a clerkship there. In October 1912 he moved to Peterborough branch.

 

During the First World War King joined the army, and by 1918 he was a Lieutenant in the Northamptonshire Regiment. He died in France on 13 May 1918. He was 26 years old.
