David Elwyn Lewis was born in Llandilo, Carmarthenshire, in 1887, the son of Thomas Lewis, draper, and his wife Mary. From about 1905 he worked for Parr's Bank. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

During the First World War Lewis left his job at the bank's London Bartholomew Lane office to join the army. By 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the London Welsh Battalion, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, in active service in France. He died on 18 September 1918 of wounds received in action. He was 31 years old.

 

David Lewis is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
