Francis Robinson Latter was born on 17 November 1894, the son of Arthur Herbert Latter and his wife Ada Mary. In February 1913, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War Latter left his job as a clerk at the bank's London head office to go on military service, and by 1917 he was a Captain in The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). He was killed in action on 3 May 1917. He was 22 years old.
