Geoffrey Connell Lancaster was born in Lancashire in 1896, the only son of the Reverend John James Lancaster, vicar of Inskip, and his wife Fanny Maria. He was educated in Kirkham. In 1912 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co at its Preston branch.

 

In September 1914 Lancaster joined the army, initially as a Private in The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. Within weeks he was promoted to Lance Corporal, and in March 1915, to Corporal. He was killed in action in France on 11 October 1915. He was 19 years old.
