Harold Partington Ledger was born in Canterbury on 24 October 1894, the son of Arthur William Ledger, a schoolmaster, and his wife Jane Anne. He grew up in Canterbury and was educated at Christ's Hospital, Horsham. After leaving school he went to work for Holt & Co.

 

During the First World War Ledger left his job at the bank to join the Royal Fusiliers. He later became an officer in the Royal Flying Corps. Second Lieutenant Harold Partington Ledger died in France on 20 November 1917. He was 23 years old.
