Howard Vincent Lancaster was born in 1893, the son of Frederick William Lancaster and his wife Edith Eliza. In July 1914 he went to work for Coutts & Co as a ledger poster.

 

In May 1915 Lancaster left the bank to join the army, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Honourable Artillery Company. He was later commissioned into the Leicestershire Regiment. Second Lieutenant Howard Vincent Lancaster was severely wounded at the First Battle of Cambrai and died on 21 November 1917 without regaining consciousness. He was 24 years old.

 

Howard Lancaster is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Coutts & Co, London 440 Strand.
