Alfred Martindale

Alfred Horace Martindale was born on 21 August 1887, the son of the Reverend Alfred Martindale and his wife Elizabeth. In July 1907, when he was 19 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Martindale became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

Early in the First World War Martindale left his job as a clerk at the bank's Hastings branch to go on military service. By 1915 he was a Lieutenant in the King's Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry), on active service in France. He died there on 4 October 1915. He was 28 years old.
