Andrew Youngson Greig McLauchlan was born in London on 13 August 1895, the son of a sea captain and his wife. In December 1912, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.
In May 1915 McLauchlan left his job as a clerk at the bank's Bishop's Stortford branch to join the army. By 1918 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Manchester Regiment, on active service in France. He was killed in action there on 28 September 1918. He was 23 years old.
Andrew McLauchlan is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Bishops Stortford branch where his name is spelled Andrew McLaughlan.
