Arthur George Millard was born in Edmonton, Middlesex, in 1893, the son of Harriet Millard. From about 1910 he worked for Parr's Bank.

 

During the First World War Millard left his job at the bank's Williton branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the 26th (Bankers') Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action on the Somme on 10 October 1916. He was 23 years old.

 

Arthur Millard is commemorated on a bank war memorial at  NatWest Minehead branch.
