Charles Edward Marshall was born in Liverpool in about 1893, the son of Samuel Marshall, a Post Office clerk, and his wife Ada. In about 1911 he started work for Bradford District Bank at its Leeds Markets branch.

 

During the First World War Marshall left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Highland Light Infantry. He died in France on 29 September 1918.
