Eric Seymour Molyneux was born in Windlesham, Surrey, in 1891, the son of Thomas Molyneux, a railway stationmaster, and his wife Kate. He worked for Glyn, Mills, Currie & Co as a clerk.

Just after the outbreak of war in August 1914, Molyneux left his job in the bank's Town Office to join the army. By 1916 he was in France commanding a sniping school at the front. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in early 1917.

Captain Molyneux of the Worcestershire Regiment was killed in action at Cambrai, France, on 30 November 1917. He was 26 years old and left a widow, Beatrix Lilian, whom he had married four months earlier.

A friend and fellow officer later wrote to Molyneux's father, 'He died a hero's death trying to bring in a wounded man and himself being at the time wounded in the hand. I was able to get the dear lad's body in this morning and he will be buried tomorrow. He has a smile on his face and looks nice. We could not get his body in before because they were shelling so, but I chanced it this morning and was lucky with three of the men to manage it.'
