Geoffrey Marshall

Bank: Union of London & Smiths Bank

Place of work: Oxford Union Bank branch

Died: 1917

Geoffrey William Whitmore Marshall was born in Warwickshire in 1894, the son of William Edward Marshall, a farmer and miller, and his wife Annie Caroline. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its Oxford Union Bank branch.

Early in the First World War Marshall left the bank to join the army, serving as a Private in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He was discharged from the army in June 1917, having been declared unfit for service due to illness. He died later that year. He was 23 years old. He does not appear to have been classified by the military authorities as a casualty of the war, but the bank counted him as one of its First World War fallen.

Geoffrey Marshall is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
