George Alfred James Moore was born in London in around 1890, the son of George Moore, a patent medicine vendor's assistant, and his wife Maria Ann. He worked for London County & Westminster Bank as a lift attendant at its London head office.

 

During the First World War Moore left the bank to join the army, becoming a Gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery. He died in Egypt on 18 December 1919. He left a widow, Daisy Ethel.
