George Marshall

George Fairholm Marshall was born on 19 January 1896, the son of James and Jessie Marshall. In November 1911, when he was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Kirkcaldy, Pathhead branch. He resigned from the bank in August 1914 but returned the following January, becoming a clerk in Kirkcaldy branch.

 

Marshall later left the bank to join the army, becoming a Lance Corporal in the Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment). He died in France on 23 September 1917 of wounds received in action on the previous day. He was 21 years old.
