James Thompson Mackay MacKessack was born on 7 November 1894, the son of John and Mary MacKessack. In September 1912 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co.

 

In January 1916 MacKessack left his job at the bank's London office to go on military service, becoming a Private in the London Regiment. He died of pneumonia on 5 March 1917. He was 22 years old.
