James McGregor was born on 3 February 1896. He was educated at Alleyn's School, Dulwich. In April 1914, when he was 18 years old, he went to work for London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War McGregor left his job as a clerk at the bank's Foreign branch in London to join the army, becoming a Private in the Royal Fusiliers. He was killed in action in France on 13 February 1916. He was 20 years old.

 

James McGregor is commemorated on a bank war memorial held at NatWest Group Archives.
