James Hepworth Morris was born on 29 November 1893, the son of Frank and Annie Morris. In June 1911 he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co as a junior at its Manchester Withy Grove branch. He was promoted to a clerkship there in 1915.

 

In February 1916 Morris left the bank to join the army, becoming a Private in the Manchester Regiment. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 1 April 1917. He was 23 years old.
