John Myerscough was born on 27 February 1895, the son of Thomas Myerscough and his wife Alice Mary. In March 1911, when he was 16 years old, he went to work for Manchester & Liverpool District Banking Co as a junior at its Preston branch. He transferred to Bentham branch in 1912, and in 1915 was promoted to clerk and transferred to Lancaster branch.

 

In January 1916 Myerscough left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Royal Marine Light Infantry. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 28 April 1917. He was 22 years old.
