Robert Meacock

Robert Hugh Meacock was born on 8 April 1889, the youngest son of John Meacock and his wife Fanny.

 

In April 1906, shortly after his 17th birthday, Meacock went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank, and Meacock became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

In July 1915 Meacock left his job as a clerk at the bank's Berkhamsted branch to join the army. By 1916 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Durham Light Infantry, on active service in France. He died there on 19 October 1916 of wounds received in action. He was 27 years old.

 

Robert Meacock is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Berkhamsted branch.
