Arthur Edward Norton was born in London in 1895, the son of Charles Norton, a clerk, and his wife Mary Evelyn. He worked for Union of London & Smiths Bank at its London Princes Street office, and was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

During the First World War Norton left his job at the bank to join the army, becoming a Corporal in the Rifle Brigade. He died in France on 16 September 1916. He was 21 years old.

 

Arthur Norton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office and on another held at NatWest Group Archives
