Louis Needham was born on 4 February 1889, the son of Isaac Broome Needham and his wife Ellen. In June 1905 he went to work for Manchester & County Bank.

 

In August 1914 Needham left his job at the bank's New Mills branch to join the army, serving initially in The King's (Liverpool Regiment). He later transferred to the Royal Naval Reserve as an Assistant Paymaster. By 1918 he was a Lieutenant, serving on board HMS Godetia.

 

Lieutenant Needham died of pneumonia in Edinburgh on 20 December 1918. He was 29 years old.
