Fergus Oxley

Fergus Richard Oxley was born on 14 October 1888, the son of George E Oxley and his wife Alice. In March 1906, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank and Oxley became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War Oxley left his job as a clerk at the bank's Herne Bay branch to join the army. He became a Lieutenant in the Royal Sussex Regiment and was killed in action in Belgium on 20 September 1916. He was 27 years old.
