Frederick Opperman

Frederick Willie Opperman was born on 9 June 1884, the son of Frederick Willie Opperman and his wife Frances Elizabeth. In December 1903, when he was 19 years old, he went to work for London & County Bank. In 1909 London & County Bank merged with London & Westminster Bank and Opperman became an employee of the enlarged London County & Westminster Bank.

 

During the First World War Opperman left his job as a clerk at the bank's London Covent Garden branch to join the army, becoming a Private in the London Regiment. He died in France on 26 May 1915. He was 30 years old.

 

Frederick Opperman is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Covent Garden branch.
